New Diet? I'll Try It!

3-Day Diet Day 1 Breakfast

A while ago on Pinterest I found a 3-Day diet from Training This Body. This is also know as the Military Diet if you want to search for other sites on the internet. I thought having two jobs would make me weigh less or at least maintain because when would I have time to eat. The truth is I gained 10 pounds and I am achy and always starving. I haven't made time to workout, besides the occasional 5 min walk at lunch. I kept telling myself that I just need to get through this or that and then I can concentrate on my health. The other day my husband mentioned that I should join a gym. He usually doesn't say anything, so this is when I weighed myself to find the weight gain. They do say that lack of sleep will lead to weight gain. I have been trying to sleep but I have a hard time falling asleep.

I'm hoping this will at least get me down a few, if not 10 pounds and then I can work on the next 10 pounds. After that I will try to maintain. I ate my breakfast at 6:30am. I have been trying to keep busy but I'm hungry! I'm going to try my best to get through day 1. I picked today to start since I am only going to work 3 hours today, 8 hours Thursday, and 3.5 hours on Friday. I am also going to walk on my treadmill for 1.5 hours or 3 miles each day. I should be able to post on Saturday my results. And here is the ugly truth, at 5':

Will This Workout, Workout?

So according to my height and weight, I am overweight.
In the Spring of 2012 I started to train for a Half Marathon after losing my very active job in February. I was able to easily run the Half Marathon with all the adrenaline and side line motivation, but a few weeks later I found myself at the doctors office with high blood pressure. I weighed 140 lb, and at 5', this is 12 lb overweight. My doctors never said anything about losing weight but I was shocked at the amount since it had been awhile since I stepped on the scale. I was always the bigger girl out of the three of us, but I did lose 15 lb in my first year in college. Before I got pregnant with my daughter I was 110 lb and wore a size 4. It has always been my goal to get back to this state after two kids, but I was 20 at the time.
By changing my diet to eating less wheat, and trying to follow the Paleo/Primal diet while exercising I was able to shed 10 lb. I am now working to be at least 125, since weight fluctuates by a few pounds everyday. At work we have been having a lot of motivational things to sign up for and keep on track. Currently I am doing the ShapeUp Challenge and keeping track of my steps, workout time, and weight. I had no idea how few steps I take in a day considering I have a desk job.
Sunday I started the Shrink a Size in 14 Days plan by Prevention. I measured by biceps, thighs, waist and hips to compare again at the end. I also used the Paint Program to make a chart so all the exercises are on one sheet of paper with the treadmill instructions and printed them to look at while working out. This makes it easier than looking at the computer because I could get sucked in to doing other things. So far it has been a challenge. My legs were sore after day two. It is a walking workout, but its speed walking. With my short legs it is intense. In two weeks I will post how many inches I lost and how much I weigh. I know there is no miracle cure and it what works for one person won't work for another, but I know surfing the internet doesn't make me sweat.

Menu Plan Monday

It is January 27, 2013 and I have finally packed up all the Christmas decorations. I had the two cardboard boxes filled with some supplies but I filled one will things to get rid of and the other one I was able to just empty into my other containers. My next step will be getting them into the basement. I did keep my lights even though I had a lot of burned out lights in 3 stands. My husband didn't think it would be a good idea to throw out expensive lights without trying to fix them. We will see what will happen next year.

Starting today is a 10 week healthy challenge at work. I am on a team and we have competitions to see who can lose the most weight and who is the most active. I would like to start everyday with 30-60 minutes of walking on a treadmill. This week I have power yoga schedules on Monday and Wednesday night. I would really like to get back in my running routine but I'm not sure yet. I just read The Primal Blueprint: Updated and Expanded (Paperback Edition) so now I have new thoughts on what I should be eating and how I should exercise. In his book he suggest eating no grains, more meat and vegetable, and exercise less. Right now I am stuck at 132 lbs. I tried doing Crossfit but I burned out quick. It is too intense of a workout to do everyday. I couldn't find any advise on beginning Crossfit besides doing less but I have a tendency to push myself and then get down when I can't do the workout and quit.  I am still having heart burn issues. I am trying to figure out what is causing all my heartburn. I'm under a lot of stress keeping up with 40 hours a week, two kids and my husband who works long hours, but I would like to think the cause is my diet. The hard part of starting the Primal Diet is the cost. I have found some helpful websites:

Mark's Daily Apple author of The Primal Blueprint
Whole9 30 Days to Change Your life

There are a lot more out there but these are just some I came across on Saturday. I searched for Primal on Pinterest and was able to come up with the some blogs with recipes who listed their favorite websites. I had no idea this other world existed.

But for this week we will be having:
Monday- homemade spaghetti sauce with ground turkey and whole wheat noodles; (I'm going to make spaghetti squash noodles to have with the sauce)
Tuesday- steak tacos, and I will have a steak salad
Wednesday- pizza; I'm going to have pizza frittata
Thursday- chicken salad
Saturday-
Lunch: leftovers
Dinner: wild rice with crispy chicken
Sunday-
Breakfast: banana crepes
I'm not sure if out meat will be organic this week, but I'm going to see how it goes.

Well-conditioned

Ugh!  Apparently I need to work more on watching what I eat. I weighed myself the other morning and gained 5 pounds. I've been working out, so now I'm back to watching what I'm eating. I track it on the free my fitness pal app. Now that the kids are back in school I'm trying to workout in the work gym as often as I can to keep the weight off. If this doesn't work, I'm definitely going to the doctor to have some test run!

Well-conditioned

Sitting on my couch, catching up on big brother 14, I feel so tired.  I woke up early this morning to go to the State Fair. We walked around for about 4 and half hours, but I did eat some fried Oreos. This is one of my fair favorites so I have gotten them three years in a row now.

I did search the internet and found a great post on snacks:
http://www.dwlz.com/HealthyLife/healthy27.html.

I'm going to try to start making my snacks healthy next week, but I definitely need to keep some chocolate in there as well, and maybe even one zero calorie pop once a week.

This week also went well for my half marathon training. I ran/walk 10 miles on Sunday and 4 miles on Wed and Friday. It hasn't been so good for trying to use the other days for strength exercises other parts of my body, but there have been a few times that I fit in a few crunches and some squats. I have a co-worker who I'm going to try to meet at the gym next week for some more motivation on my non-running days. I finally viewed the gym and was a little disappointed that they don't have the machine where you push you legs in to work on inner thighs, but they do have the rope thing for your leg to work it that way. The gym also has some elliptical and bike machines to help me cross train. I hope to get used to the gym and then I will keep up with my running after the marathon is over. Tomorrow I will run .5 miles at a fast past, and 3 minutes at a slow pace for 6 intervals with a 5 min warm up and cool down. I also plan on cleaning the garage and getting a lot of housework done tomorrow.

Money report: $35 I took out for the fair: paid kids $7 in allowance, paid $15 for parking and tickets, $5.50 for tenderloin for daughter, $4 in fried oreos, and also charged 13.50 for onion rings, soda and cheese steak sandwich for my son and I still have $3 in cash
Chore Report:made sure the kids cleaned the bathrooms before I gave them allowance and did some laundry
Health report: ran/walked Friday 4 mi, and walked around the fair, I did have some soda today, and didn't eat healthy. trying to drink more water before going to bed as I am always thirsty it seems. I might try to drink seltzer water to calm pop cravings. For some reason my skin is fairly clear of any acne right now so super stoked about that.

Working on Health

So I decided to tackle one thing from each of my list each week. Today I was able to wake up and run outside, which is a more motivating to me than the treadmill. I figured I need to run Wed and Sunday outside, with Sunday being the day I would do my long run. Friday I will have to run on a treadmill but I can alternate between my house and the gym at work. Monday will be my day off and Tuesday, and Thursday I will need to come up with a strength training routine for either home or the work gym. If I get up by 5:30 it should give me enough time to work out and then get the kids up for school, or get the kids up to head to work early to hit the gym and shower.

I have also been trying to drink more water and changing my pillow cases before bed to help clear up my acne that drives me crazy.

Another part of this plan would be making sure I am in bed by 10 pm do I'm not tired to wake up.

It seems like Netflix took off all of the fitness show it had before, like Crunch workouts.  My next option was hulu.com and they did have a good variety.  My plan tomorrow will be to wake up and try one of the videos on toning since I have some hand weights at home I can use. My body targets would be my inner thighs, and abs. I don't think there is a workout to make your boobs bigger, but if you know of one, let me know.

Friday I hope to post about finance, which is also pay day. Yippee!
