Tuesday's Tip

Laundry

When I sort laundry pre-wash, I sort it out by each person and then by towels and blankets. I usually only get to laundry on the weekends, but it only takes me one day and everyone has enough clothes to last a week anyways. This gives me 5 loads to do. This method makes it easier on me because I fold or hang each load out of the dryer and take it to the right spot. If you want to do laundry during the week, you could give everyone a basket and when it is full then it is time to do wash for them. This way you aren't sorting things out twice. Most of our clothes are colors so if you have a lot of whites you would have to add this load to the list. Please leave me a post as to your speed method for laundry, there is always room for improvement.

  1. My method of madness for laundry - well, I'm home everyday which should make things a little easier for me - but not necessarily!

I look everyday to see if I have a load to do. My husband wears uniforms so I have to keep on top of them. I have a separate hamper for uniforms, one for civilian clothes and then my daughter's hamper. Generally speaking, I do my daughter's clothes separately and my hubby's uniforms separately leaving me our regular clothes and then the usual towels, sheets, etc.

I guess I end up doing about eight loads of laundry each week which sounds like a lot for three people but those darn uniforms take up two loads worth.

Sounds like you've got a good system going.

  2. Hi! I just found your site and couldn't help but comment on this because I've been working out a laundry system for myself too.
I've been taking laundry down to my basement each day or so and dividing it into categories in empty boxes (because it's the ugly basement I've got the room to do that). Colors, whites, baby, and towels/sheets are my categories. As the box gets full I do a load of it. Kinda similar to yours except I do them throughout the week. I still have a hubby that comes to me and says he doesn't have something from time to time, but I'm starting to think that means he needs more clothes! ;)
